Nitrogen Trials
Summit Fertilizers have conducted a number of nitrogen trials since 1996, investigating the best way to apply N, and the best sources of nitrogen for crops in WA. The sources we have looked at are:
Source |
Placement |
|---|---|
| Urea | IBS With the Seed IAS 3WAS Banded |
| Calcium Ammonium Nitrate | IBS With the Seed IAS Banded |
| Plastic Coated Urea | IBS With the Seed Banded |
| Liquid Nitrogen | IBS (Spray) With the Seed Behind Press Wheel Foliar |
| Agrotain Coated Urea | IBS With the Seed Banded After Sowing |
In almost all cases Urea topdressed before sowing gives the best yield as well as the best return.
One of the trials, at Geraldton in 2000 clearly shows the advantage of Urea applied before sowing over all other treatments. Urea sown next to the seed can damage the seedling.
LIQUID Nitrogen
Summit has been investigating the benefits of Liquid fertilizers. Results from our trials, as well as WANTFA, have suggested that there is no Agronomic benefit over using Urea IBS. Following is a trial completed in Cunderdin in 2000.This trial showed IBS Urea was the better treatment and at a lower cost.
